[TheForge] OT--Gas prices, gas shortages, price gouging?

We haven't built new refinerys in any number for a long time. More
demand,fewer facilities.
I was a marine biology student, diver, fisher, poacher, commercial
biological specimen collector and under the table shell shop supplier (
and some other related endeavors, not all strictly legal), at the time
the off shore drilling platforms came in in Santa Barbra.
Long before the actual famous oil spill, the local marine ecology took a
nose dive, big time.
Locations rich with seafood for years went nearly sterile. Local
fisheries staggered , some collapsed. It was ugly and convinced me that
going on in marine bio, which i loved, was to become a historian. I
quit. Eventually fell out of the ocean into the frying pan of metal work
when a friend let me borrow his torch.....
I have a very low opinion of offshore drilling......pf

Even if it was just drilling, we'd be getting shipments of oil from somewhere else. Yeah high oils prices will drive gas prices, but the oil execs closing refineries and keeping them closed has done more to run our gas prices up. I'm for the pickens plan(look it up online right now). I'm also for renewable alternative fuels too. Hybrids aren't enough we need hybrids that run on alcohol, hydrogen, natural gas, propane, biodiesel, vegatable oils, and anything else we can think of. Besides, there is no actual law against drilling offshore. It's heavily frowned upon and used as another excuse to gouge prices.
