My main anvil is a Hay Budden. Shortly after I got it, the top half
seperated from the bottom half. It turns out that the Hay Buddens were made
in two pieces and welded together at the waist. Mine had come apart
somewhere along the line and had gotten pinned together with two large steel
dowls. It seemed solid when I got it because of the rust around the dowls,
but with use got loose.
8 or 9 years ago I rewelded the two halves back together after a preheat.
It has worked well ever since.
So if you can get a large piece of iron or steel to use as a base, bolt or
pin together and then weld. It should work. It may take a little research to
make sure you have the right rod for the materials being used.
