[TheForge] How large a generator?

We lived for 2 years on a 25KW ran 2 houses 3 wells 24/7 diesel consumption
was 1 gal/hour the seller promised power in 3 months... yea right they at
least 
 Paid for the diesel

How large a gar/diesel generator do the wise folks here feel would be 
needed to run a household (typical, FWIW) plus a shop (TIG welder, misc. 
machines, most that will not be run simultaneously, but a few that may).

30Kw?  $0?  More?  Less?
