Peter:

I'd try the corkscrew, it should work on sheet though 
you might need to drill a pilot hole first.

I only suggested the crochet hook in reference to 
unpacking glands and pulling wool.

Though when I think about it if you were to sharpen one 
to a point, drive it into the lead foil and pull it 
like a barbed fish hook. Heck, maybe just try a fish 
hook in a deep sea size.
