Where I work for NYC they bought reduced wattage incandescent bulbs to show
energy savings and probably got them cheap or I hope so. Some last less
than three minutes, usually long enough to put the ladder or stool away,
some last a week. I have spent enough time the last three years changing
bulbs to buy a truck load if you figure what this has cost them in labor.
Unfortunately this is true, but someone probably got promoted or an out
side company job for this purchase.
I demand they call in MIT to research this problem,
I'll probably end up with a rotator cuff injury from turning bulbs before
they run out ;-)
A friend of mine was a building engineer and they bought all left handed
bulbs and changed the fixtures in the building. All the bulbs and the extra
fixtures were stolen costing more than than the original minor theft problem
