In 1966, I worked in a Volswagen dealership. No car that came through
the door got out with less than $15 on the bill. (1968 dollars,
roughly day's wages for me then, call it over $100 in 2007 dollars.)
Anything smaller the shop forman went out and did in the parking lot
at no charge. Some of those $15 jobs consisted of sticking a screw
driver under a certain wire and twisting it 90 degrees.
