The USA has two 50,000 ton closed die presses originally owned by the Air
Force. They
were built by either Mesta, or United, I don't remember which.
I thought I saw a 50,000 ton press at TRW in Cleveland back in the early
1980's. This one was made by Mesta who was the husband of the famous Perle Mesta
who was known as the "hostess with the mostes" for her lavish parties
featuring the brightest stars of Washington, D.C., society, including artists,
entertainers and many top-level national political figures. But perhaps I am
disremembering. But it was BIG!
While I was there they were using a much smaller press to stamp impeller
blades for jet aircraft. Wham! Bam! Quite an exciting process. I never saw the
big press run.
