Terry,

If you just want to keep your dog's in, look into installing an invisible fence. 
 They work very well and really will not harm the dog.  It doesn't take the dog 
long to learn the boundary.  These are easy to install and a lot less expensive 
than a fence that has to keep a dog in.

You can also then have a visual fence too if you want it but then you can attach 
the invisible fence wire to that rather than having to bury it underground.
