The coins don't lose mass. They are reduced in diameter, but get 
thicker. Because the forces are usually pretty symmetric, the coin 
pretty much keeps its shape. IIRC, they don't always "turn out". They 
are sometimes badly distorted. Those go to the scrap pile....
