Unfortunately, I tore out the shaft wiper from the air cylinder, probably
partly due to it sitting there for a year before being used. But it was
also showing some symptoms of blow-by. It would hit, and hold the work
for about 1 second before cyling properly when the treadle was pushed.
I'm thinking it was some side loading, as when I checked it was slightly
out of alignment.
I got a replacment wiper (cylinder and seals looked good when I replaced
it) and an alighment coupler. I've got it back together, but i haven't
used it yet as I just made new dies and have to finish heat treating them.
When making the dies, I can see that the anvil and ram surfaces are not
quite parallel, but they aren't off by all that much. It looks like
welding in the supports pulled the anvil a little to the back of the
hammer. I can deal with adjusting for it, but it is a little annoying.
But it should be back up and running tonight if I can get the billets
cleaned up for the next batch of welding.
Todd
