In medical school they had a refrigerator for the
anatomy department that had similar multihooks. There
is a regulation that cadavers need be stored in
formalin for a year so that if there was dormant TB it
would be killed.The cadavers had a molly bolt with a
terminal loop screwed into the top of the skull and it
was eerie to see multiple cadavers in formalin-filled
adherent plastic bags hanging on a hooks facing each
other. The non- hook end fit into a track to slide
like suits at the cleaners,and the apposed bodies were
close together till use. 

this was my first idea and i didn't voice it until i
saw the wide range of ideas. Thinking for  a while i
wonder if it may be some type of hook thrown up to
catch something when climbing a rock face and attached
to a climbing rope.
