Probably not an issue in this case. Most vacuum cleaners seem to be 
universal motors that will run off a dimmer or a rheostat for that 
matter.  You can tell because they turn at insane rpm's.  Ceiling fans 
are induction motors typically and their speed is a function of the 
windings(poles actually) and input frequency.  They just run hot if not 
supplied enough voltage.
