That's what I'd do.  Lacking a big enough tub, poly sheet in some kind
of box or trough.  Instead of HCl, baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
so that cleanup and disposal will be less messy.  If the block/anvil
unit is greasy, a good scrub and hose-down with strong detergent
before starting the electrolysis.
