I think the problem he is having is that with a small piece to be cut
off, like say a .24 inch or less, there is nothing to support the
outboard end. The blade, even when sharp, requires some pressure to
cut. There comes a point where the pressure of the blade is enough to
bend over the remaining metal rather than cut through it. The sharper
the blade, the less the tendency. The answer is to wedge a small wooded
shim under it like a Popsicle stick that will support both sides of the
cut, but is thin enough to fit in the valley for the blade on the
table. I have an old craftsman industrial model and a popsicle stick is
just right. Don't know what might work on your saw. You have to make
sure you don't mess up the alignment wedging it in there though. I
usually don't bother, that is what files are for.
