[TheForge] moving on

Terry:

Your story reaches me on a number of levels. First, your legal medical
nightmare. I practiced law for 25 years and know 2 things: one accident
can ruin your life even without the physical complications, and you are
very wise not to rely on the doctors and lawyers to solve the problems you
face. I applaud your courage in the decision to move on. Second, I live on
Cape Cod, where winters are relativley mild but I have lived all over New
ENglad and can tell you that VErmont winter (which is to say late fall
through early spring) can be brutal. I would not want to take it on with
any other kind of physical challenge facing me. In fact I have recently met
more than one family who have either retired to or winter over around
Birmingham, just to avoid our winters. Finally, I work at an historic
general store and can tell you that things like your cookie cutters are
hugely popular with our customers. We sell about 20 patterns in tin. We do
not currently carry copper, but it sounds interesting, so keep me posted on
how they go, and whether you would be interested in wholesaling them through
us. Candle lanterns, pie case panels, match box holders, tin boxes, even
larger copper lanterns, electric, candle or kerosene, are popular around
here, depending on what you mean by "small and simple". I am looking for
brass ferrules for some tools I make on wooden handles and wonder if you
could do those. Basically brass tube 1 1/2 to 3 inches in length, 3/4 to 1
inch in diameter, slightly flared at one end and rolled over inward at the
inch at the other. Sort of like a garden hose ferrule, but slightly
heavier. We smiths often use an iron ring to ferrule our wooden handled
tools, chisels, garden tools atc, but I like the more refined brass for
mine, and others might, too.

I wish you the best in moving on.

Peter Hirst
