Ive lived 'around' Birmingham since I was 8 years old Im now 41... If you notice.. I said lived AROUND Birmingham. I cant imagine living in the city, particularly the downtown area. Urban blight is given a new meaning there.. however, a goodly portion of the suburbs around Bham are fabulous places to live. Hoover, Mountain Brook, Vestavia, Alabaster, Helena, Pinson, Trussville, & McCalla just to name a few. Unemployment is a NATIONAL low here.. like 2.3% or something, cost of living is low, taxes are low, property values are moderate compared to other areas of similar population. Its 5 hours to the beach, 3 hours to the Smokies, got lots of outdoor activities that are not normally cancelled by snow .. and we have a VERY active blacksmith group here.

Personally I like it, but I wouldnt live IN Birmingham.. If you have questions fell free to fire away..
