I think now I understand you want the whole spike with a couple of 
coupling nuts welded to the side(shaft) of the spike to make your pull.  
I thought before you just wanted the head.  I would recommend using a 
standoff rather than a coupling nut.  No welding, just drill two holes 
and tap, screw teh standoff in and you are done.
