[TheForge] charcoal question

That's what I concluded as well, hence breaking the address up with spaces.
:)

You are right about the cinderblocks as well. I found that out the hard
way...
:(

I used my retort in my 'fire pit,' in my yard... and after my older son
decided to build the fire up nice and high most of the blocks cracked.
Luckily I knew of a remodeling project near where I worked, at the time,
that was removing a few cinderblock walls... I was able to salvage enough
blocks to rebuild the whole thing... of course the salvaged blocks are
starting to crack once again...

The next fire pit is going to be built out of mortared field stone... those
suckers shouldn't crack on me! and I should be able to design it up as a
multi-purpose setup... fire pit, retort shelter and outdoor bake oven for
bread.

that is, if I don't get the job in TN...

Theforge doesn't like the URL I guess, mine bounced
when I included the complete link.

Anyway, I send this link on occasion to show a simple
retort
with does and don'ts.

Don't use cinderblock to enclose the retorts.
Cinderblock can't take the heat and you can buy lots of
charcoal for the price of those cinderblocks. More
charcoal than you'll get before the blocks are
destroyed. Dan mentions this but lots of guys don't
seem to see it in his text.

Do enclose the retort though, it greatly increases
efficiency by trapping the heat.
