Well, I don't post much.
My anvil horn points to the east. My propane forge is ion a stand that is
about 5" height at the opening. I don't have to bend over to see what color my
steel is. Forge is in the southwest area. I stand on the north side of my
anvil. Quench barrel is in the west
My anvil is wrist high on a stacked salvaged 6"x 8" oak that is nailed
together. I have rubber mats under my feet on a concrete floor. Have no problems
with my wrist and all my hammers have hockey stick tape over the handles to
make them fit my hand better. Hammers from 8 ounce to 4 pounds.
I have a Future 2 anvil which its bottom half aluminum and top steel with a
rubber pad between them and 2 bolts holding it together. No ring to my anvil.

As for making charcoal, get a hold of you local excavating contractors and
see what wood they are willing to give away as their scrap wood. I got all
my oak pieces from a contractor that was going to burn them. The wood
comes when they get a job to lay water main and fire hydrants for new or existing
water main replacement. They come in 8' lengths and are 4" x 4". I built my
anvil stand and my steel rack out of them

As for the hides Leave the fur on them elk and buffalo. They do make for
great cloaks, make great pads for sleeping on when camping and make great
covers to keep you warm.
Ike
Pan's Forge.
