A 55 Gal. drum works well. Cut a 2 inch hole near the bottom and weld
a short pipe with a cove that you can close. through scrap wood in
light on fire, when the smoke turns that clear blue color close the
pipe off and put the lid on the drum. won't hurt to put a cinder block
or something on to hold the lid down. Next day you have charcoal.  If
there is someplace in town that makes pallets or cabinets you can
often get scrap form them for free, they have to pay to get rid of it.
