The little thumbscrew on the burner holds the outer tube that can
slide over the air intake slots. The position of the MIG-tip gas jet
is adjustable along the long axis of the burner. That's a
half-thickness hard brick for a floor. I have soft refractory brick
to set up on the flange for "doors" if needed. Sorry, but the
close-up of the burner was over-exposed and useless.

I've had this running. It heats up quickly and seems to work great.
Just did one little thing. But that's why I want it, to heat up some
little thing without having to fire up the coal forge. The lining is
some kind of refractory cement which developed some small cracks when
drying. I guess, based on nearly everybody's recommendations, that
I'll coat it with ITC-100, Just have to brave the big city traffic to
go and fetch it from one of those impossible, "can't get there from
here" locations.

While I'm here...

Earlier on, we were discussing ways to mount a leg vise other than on
a bench. Here's a photo of my rig:

   http://home.tallships.ca/mspencer/temp/vise.jpg

That's an 8" (welll..., 7-3/4") vise. It sits on the off side of the
anvil with a wheeled tool rack between the anvil and the vise. Wheel
the rack aside and there's room for a striker or to work all around
the vise. (The stuff behind the vise is variously in transit, easily
flung aside or on wheels.) The post is 4"x4"x1/4" HSS. To move the
vise itself, I position a wheeled engine hoist over it. The vise and
post then lift out of the sockets together. Then the 4'x4'x1/4" piece
of plate (with the sockets welded on) can be picked up the same way.
So far, in 4 years I've only needed to move it once. The attachment
of the vise to the post is the convention band and wedge affair.

I've been asked by the authors not to post the the forge workshop
handout because the version I have is a preliminary draft and "not for
distribution". Sorry 'bout that, Walt. I did suggest to one of the
guys who took a lot of pics at the workshop that he get in touch with
you about photos.
