Flue pipe...
How well does the galvanized culvert pipe hold up to the heat, acid from
coal, etc. I guess pretty well from your comment you did it7 years ago.
I've been looking on Craigslist for big pipe, some hits, and will try
the local scrap dealer. Bought a 4 ft piece of 16" dia 1/2" wall last
week for another project and it ran a little over $10/foot. I know 1/2"
wall is way overkill for this.
The reason I am looking at this type of flue is I want it to last. My
current 8" black stove pipe is just about to come apart down low at the
top of the forge. I have to move the whole rig anyway as my shop has to
be moved, might as well do it right.
I have considered brick but I'm not capable of laying brick with any
degree of success.
Regarding Aubrey and the goats, yes, they will freeze to death, esp. if
wet. We used to have a sheet iron goat shed that was open on 3 sides
and would hold several hundred head for shelter. We would feed them
some there in bad weather so they knew it was there. Trouble is, when
really cold they get in a pile and the ones on the bottom of the stack
would smother. Never had any Spanish goats so can't comment on them,
all mine were Angoras.
