Another good teaching aid is:
Cut a couple of 1/4" d.  rounds 12" lg.  deburr to pass around the class 
cold. Ask them to bend it.
Heat 3/4" sq. in forge to yellow( that produces the oooooohhhsss).   Explain 
how heating steel makes it malleable, and bring it out, put it in the hardy 
hole and bend it 80d.~. Straighten.Put it back in the fire to heat for next 
class.
