Those duplex nails are made from such soft steel that you don't even have to heat them in the forge to shape them into a sword.  However, be aware that just hammering the cold nail will generate enough heat to burn tender hands.  I make a lot of  those at med fairs when kids ask if I make swords.  But, I never give them to the kids.  Sometimes I will give them to a responsible-looking adult with the kids.

Some of the best and most attentive audiences I have had have been school kids.  It is usually their adult "minders" that tell them it is time to move along.

The fasted way to make a sword when asked is to use a double headed nail
from the hardware store.  Heat the nail flatten the two heads to make the
handle and then draw out the other end for the blade. [snip]
