Well, if you say that because wrought iron is inherently non-modern, I would 
have to agree.  But if you mean its not being made any more, it is.  One 
firm in England is still producing it.

A third possibility is that Dr Foeke meant "more modern wrought iron"  or 
"contemporary" iron, i.e. the iron that was modern in 1910.  Any way you 
slice it, I don't see it as an iron vs steel issue:  simply a historical 
iron issue.
