PH minus works very well, lots better than vinegar. It 
isn't as fast as muriatic but it's WAY safer for you 
and the project.

As Roger says different batches for different metals.

Go to Wal mart get HTH PH-minus (sodium bysulphate)in 
the pool area.  Don't
get PH plus it is different.
Use the PH minus for copper also but use a different 
batch for steel or
copper.  It is a lot cheaper than sparex
It is about $10 for 10#
Will take mill scale in a couple of hours and heavy 
scale you need to work
with a brush
Mix a capful to 5 gal of warm water.
I think I converted Tom Talane' to it from the vinegar 
he was using.  He was
getting pure vinegar at $80 a gal.
