Albin,

The door rail would work. As a matter of fact that is basiclly what the 
rails in a locker are like, and they are capible of supporting full sides of 
beef.  I wish I had an anvil that big.

Though I was thinking of the rail that is used for putting hay into the 
loft.

When I read the portion below, I immediately thought of the type of rail
mounted over a "barn door"  which allows you to have a sliding barn door
instead of one swinging on hinges.

If in fact that is what Robert was referring to it would easily hold steel
between forge and anvil, but I don't think it would take the kinds of weight
of moving anvils or other really heavy items.

But then maybe it is something else.
