I have a home built tumbler which is round with  vanes. I use 50# of small 
nuts, bolts, and screws for the medium. I gets  everything clean and a nice tone 
to the steel. But...without a detergent wash  flowing through it it is a real 
bear to clean up the pieces. The rust, scale and  gunk does not come clean 
easily. If I could get away with it I would love to try  running the pieces 
through our clothes or dish washer. But I fear there would be  hell to pay.
