[TheForge] SS alloy advice?

I need to identify a stainless steel with good
chemical resistance, like 316 or maybe 304, but which
can be made into a working coil spring.
This will not be a simple, off-the-shelf spring, nor
could it be fabricated from one. I would envision
obtaining SS "spring wire" (roughly 1/8" OD) and
coiling it on a lathe as is the usual procedure for
fabricating coil springs.
Can anyone identify for me likely alloys suitable for
this purpose? (I would expect to passivate the
surface befoe putting it to use.)
I have a library I can refer to, including at least
two volumes on stainless steels. I'm being lazy by
asking you guys for pointers. But don't feel you have
to quote me all properties - I can look those up once
I have some alloys identified as candidates.
Thanks,
Bruce
