Maybe we'd have difficulty what they SAID, but there's plenty evidence to show we have no difficulty with what they wrote.

Our president excepted, of course.  He doesn't seem to understand what they wrote in the Constitution...

Dude! How can you even think that?
I think the changes in the language are like totally the schiznitz!

Of course, I do have "Old Fart" embroidered in red above the left  
pocket of my work shirt.

But really, no matter what we would like, language is a living thing,  
and it changes, all the time.
We probably could not understand most of what an american from 1776  
said.
I know I can barely understand it when Thomas Pynchon writes it in  
his book "Mason Dixon", anyway.
