You could always make a ridge pole from steel tubing. A 
triangular truss with a little scroll work for the 
angle bracing would also make a bit of a visual treat 
for the observant. A truss or "space frame" made this 
way could be made from EMT tubing and be more than 
strong enough within reason of course.
