[TheForge] pure iron wire?

Thanks Gents.
Bruce, Bob..here by the coast, bailing wire dissolves pretty
quickly and i seldom get any clean enough to try. Some i've used
in the past had stuff in it that made for a real agitated
puddle..mostly passable, about like commercial mild gas rod.
Dave; good, we mess with cement a fair amount and have plenty
of tie wire..i'll try it in the morning.
Andy; Yeah, i've forged a bunch of that 1/4" rebar bundle tie
..it does forge nicely...and i've forged down stock to make
matching welding rod in the past...but too much needed here for that.
Got me thinking now.
Groping back into the dim 60s...i burned a whole hell of a lot of
coat hanger wire as welding rod...mostly doing fill type modeling
. I can still straighten out a coathanger, faster than anyone you
know...haven't done it for years...guess i'll have to go back in
the closet tomorrow...literally.
Related musing.....the laminated cores of transformers are
supposed to be pretty pure iron so that they lose their magnetism
when the current shuts off.
I've hacked some transformers up with my bandsaw and come out
with stacks of little plates....maybe i'll cut some strips of
that stuff and see how it welds.
Similarly, it ought to be possible to use those plates as
elements in pattern welding billets...or just forge weld the
transformer plate core into a solid piece of pure iron.
Does this seem right?.....pete f
