[TheForge] pure iron wire?

Pete- slightly off topic, but I always grab a handful of the wire they use
to tie bundles of Rebar when I'm at the supply house- it's a very low carbon
wire about 1/4". Not so good for welding, but you could always draw it out
:)
It forges really well, hammer welds nicely too, and best of all, it's free
