Ug, AOL has never been that great.  I'd also advise against hotmail/MSN.
Yahoo has been doing free email for a long time, but Google Mail (gmail)
has been raising the bar on free services lately, by a longshot.  :)

Google Mail is open now:

(you can sign up using your cellphone, or just online)
