[TheForge] TIG Welder

Ron , when they say "less amps are required" they are talking about
the input, not the output.
For instance, in my shop, I have an old 250 amp Syncrowave
transformer Tig welder, and it requires a 100 amp breaker.
I also have a Miller XMT 304 inverter tig welder- and it only needs a
50 amp breaker.

But in terms of output, both machines need to be set at about the
same amp setting to do the same thickness of welding.

To answer your question, though, 200 amps should be plenty.

Would a 200 amp Miller Maxstar weld a 5/16" collar around 1
1/8" ( bar and scrolls ) ? The Miller amp calculator for TIGs is
based on transformer technology but opines that less amps are needed
for inverter machines but they do not state how much ! How much
obfuscation is this ?
