[TheForge] oxy-propylene

Anyone who can weld with propane can do so more easily with propylene.
Historically, acetylene and hydrogen were classified by the American Welding
Society as the only welding gases; that is to say, as the only fuels that were
practical to fusion weld with. I believe that they have not accepted propylene
as a third practical candidate as yet (and are not likely to do so in the
future). That said, the AWS has its own definition of practical, and that
definition is strictly commercial. Hobbyists do not necessarily share AWS
concerns.

I have no experience with this, but previous discussions on this forum concluded
it was impossible to weld with propane.

But cutting is done with the oxygen after heading the steel. What difference
would the propane make to that?

Oxy-Propane? It is cheaper for the propane, but more difficult to cut and
weld with. I have not used it, so I can't speak from experience.

Greetings all

I am considering switching to oxy-propylene (supposedly is cheaper and
will last longer) - I use the torches for cutting and spot heating only.
Any opinions?
