Indeed!  I've experienced both, fortunately without 2nd- or 3rd-degree
consequences -- just wanted to confirm this, and also point out that
even with a short piece of tubing, using tongs,
to be careful when quenching -- like hammer swings, keep it pointed
away from the face :)
The boiling water is still given a direction to travel...  or just
quench it sideways in your trough.
