Pewter. That's an interesting idea, Jeff. Does anyone know if it moves anything like hot steel? It would be easy to re-cast into bar stock of whatever size when the practicing is over.

Just a suggestion -- You could try leadless pewter. Google for
"Britannia metal". I have a 10 pound-ish ingot, and you can get it in
sheet, too. I haven't personally hammered on any, but I've heard it can
be done. Maybe someone else on the list knows more?
