Rusted steel is typically an orange color. It that
the color you're getting?

I have seen pure iron with an oxide coat that turns
your hands red. When I saw that I finally understood
why, in the late 19th century, people had difficulty
distinguishing iron rust from blood, and a test was
needed to do so.

I do not know that you can induce this color rust on
pure iron or wrought iron, but I would expect you
could. However, I've never seen such a color on
steel.

I think you may have to apply color to get what the
customer wants.
