Dave,
HOw're things in Brasstown these days? Specifically, NC has become
quite $$ in many ways. Asheville is idiotically costly, especially in
the real estate market... or at least it was and I can't see that is
would have reversed significantly. I was looking for places in Raleigh,
Charlotte, and Winston-Salem areas. Not only were the purchase prices
pretty sky-high (though nothing in comparison with NJ), the taxes were
also very high (once again nothing like NJ). What about by you? I
looked at Murphy and that was also getting pretty pricey, which really
surprised me, considering that it's pretty out there. Are the taxes
also high in BT? I'm just curious. We finally settled on 100 acres in
Summers county WV. We should be closing in a week. Can't complain when
the property taxes are $710. Some beautiful country there. Very
similar to your area. Seems Blue Ridge mountains are a lot like the
Smokies, at least in our area.
Question for anyone else: know of any decent companies for homeowners
insurance, "decent" being a relative term I suppose. They want $2600 so
far because our driveway is 8/10 of a mile long and no hydrants on the
"main" road. I insured my relatively $$ house in Freehold NJ for
something like $500 year, so this bill is a bit hard to swallow. Any
recommendations would be welcome.
