Personally I like a mixture of 1pt. Boric acid, cheap
enough in the pharmacy section or available as Roach
Proof, to 3-4 pts. borax.
I don't know if adding saw cuttings to it would help,
though some commercial welding fluxes have them.
I think it's an excellent question though and await
your results with anticipation. <grin>
