George, you'd be surprised at the depth of ignorance.  My short career 
as a professional smith taught me that the vast and overwhelming 
majority of people walking the streets wouldn't know decent ironwork if 
it bit them in the testes.  I'd show csutomers the difference between a 
real scroll end and those horrid welded on thingies that are passed off 
as them and they'd say things like "I never knew [or noticed] that 
before".  People just don't know.
