Mark,
You would be far better off at this point to replace your present (probably 1
1/4" to 3/4") bell reducers with 1 1/2" to 3/4" or even 2" to 3/4" reducers,
mount brass cross pipes (thicker walled and smoother interiors), drill, thread,
and silver braze the MIG tips in. Then, use a round or rat tail file, to remove
the portion of MIG tip protruding into the pipe interior. Finally, use MIG tip
cleaners to remove any burr or debris from the MIG tips. By replacing the bell
reducers and gas assemblies one at a time, you can go on using your forge during
the extra work, and you will also be able to see what a huge performance
difference that doing the job right will make.
Also, your burners should not be suffering from forge heat, unless you have no
way to seal them against reverse flow caused by buoyancy from the hot gases,
once the burners are shut down. You do have chokes installed on the burners,
right?
Mikey
I will be off-line for a the next few days.
