I'm trying to avoid the whole diabetes thing altogether.  Seems like an 
incredible number of people I know have it.  At times I have been 
practically a poster child for it, significantly overweight, with low 
activity levels during the day/night due to job.   Seems the best way to 
avoid it is to behave as if you have it -- diet and exercise wise --- 
something of  bummer.
