Question in regards to hammer dies and general info on my 50 pound hammer

I just recently bought a 50 pound little giant hammer it seems the dies aren't parallel to one another

I pulled down the top die and from side to side they are out of parallel by about ¼ of a inch 

My question is how do I tell if they are supposed to be like that or do I have a bigger problem?

Since im a new hammer owner any tips on care and feeding of this beast ..I think im going to name it the "skull crusher"
