how about coke vs. coal?
I found that the disadvantages of coke readily outweigh its advantages.
It can be very diffictult to break up to a convenient size. Many
contraptions have been designed to aid this process but it is more trouble than worth.
It is harder to start burning.
It is hard and dense and you can often bend small, thin pieces trying to
work it in.
If you stop blowing it quickly expires. I dont know of any way to bank it
for even 5 minutes.

It does make a nice clean fire that is advantageous for forge welding and
reducing scale. But unless you do a LOT of forge welding, not worth the effort.

My experience, only. There's some that quite like it...but not many.
