Kenny,

The RR spike tongs we use, which were coppied from an old pair, have one jaw
that is split so that it it goes on either side of the spike and cradles the
head,  the other jaw is a single piece which pushes on the back of the head.
Visualize holding the spike's head between your first two fingers and
pushing on it with your thumb. If the fingers are bent at 90 deg you hold
the spike by the head and it points straight out making it really easy to
work on even if it is twisted.

It's kind of hard to discribe but they are really easy to make and use.

I saw a pair of these some where on the super highway, does any one
recall how to make these or seeing them on the Internet some where?
I  have acquired many lbs. of  spikes.
