If we're talking about the same thing the hammer handle
is slit through from the head stopping just before the
handle's end. A 1/4" piece of rubber is epoxied (as I
recall) in the slit.
It's a vibration damper and though I haven't given it a
try yet, I know a couple people who have and swear by
it. Andy Vida being one.
