[TheForge] The New revised ed. of "The $50 Knife Shop" and a weird hammer handle

Has anyone seen this book yet?  I owned the original
version of it, but this one seems to have more info
and better color photos to illustrate stuff.  One
thing I did notice that sort of puzzled me was a
hammer with a slot in the handle.  It looked like it
had been cut with a plunge router.  My first thought
was that it would probably break under use. Then, I
wondered if this was set up to reduce vibration or
something?  Does anyone here know what I'm talking
about?  If anyone here has used such a hammer or is
currently using one, I'd like to know more about it.
