I have found phosphoric acid at Home Depot in the tile dept.  It's
apparently used to clean up grout residue.  I haven't looked for it
recently, but you might try Home Depot, Lowes, or any tile store.

What is your source for phosphoric acid?  When you say "for a time,"
how 
long?
